Celebrating 40 Years of MILCOM - Transforming Decision Making through JADC2

Call for Papers

Following the successful inaugural offering of this workshop in conjunction with Infocom 2019, we return after the pandemic with the second instance at MILCOM 2022. This workshop solicits original work that advances the science of dynamically composing, operating, adapting, and assessing future intelligent, mission-critical IoT applications that operate in harsh, unfriendly, or adversarial environments. The motivating application examples include disaster response, first-responder support, rescue management, extreme environmental monitoring (e.g., monitoring volcanoes, nuclear plants, bio-chemical incidents, or contagious disease outbreaks), and systems that, by their very nature, are subject to frequent adversarial action such as security/anti-theft systems, intrusion detection systems, anti-jamming systems, and defense systems. A common thread across the above systems is the need for high resilience in the face of a broad array of threats, human or environmental. By soliciting original research on attaining resilient and dependable operation in such a broad spectrum of harsh IoT application contexts, the workshop aims to help the research community collectively distill fundamental insights, key concepts, best practices, and analytical foundations to support a next generation of IoT services for mission-critical applications in adversarial environments. Challenges such as heterogeneity, scale, and fast evolving dynamics are of great interest. Contributions may include, but are not limited to, attainment of resilient performance-assurances in the face of threats, adaptation to meet goals despite perturbations and model uncertainties, accurate learning in adversarial conditions, adversarial machine learning, formal verification of machine learning, optimization under uncertainty, and resilient cyber-physical-human information fusion of contaminated inputs.

The 2nd international workshop on Internet of Things for Adversarial Environments solicits contributions from academia, industry, and government on recent advances in both theoretical and experimental research in the above areas. We invite technical papers and position/vision abstracts describing novel ideas, exciting results, and/or real-world experiences. Two types of submissions are solicited:

1. Full papers: Maximum length of 6 pages, including title, author list, abstract, all figures, tables, and references. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop and present the paper. Accepted papers will be broken into thematic sessions and presented in a panel discussion format.

2. Vision abstracts: This is a 2-page extended abstract that offers a future vision for a research direction in the field of social sensing. The abstract should include a title, author list, description (the vision statement), and references. A graphical illustration is highly desired (included in the 2-page limit). At least one author of each accepted abstract must register for the workshop and participate in a “Future Visions” session. The session will include short position talks by authors of accepted abstracts, followed by discussion.

All submissions should be in English. They should be prepared as per parent conference proceedings format. Templates of conference proceedings format can be found on the conference website. All paper/abstract submission will be electronic, in PDF format. Failure to register for the workshop may disqualify the paper/abstract from inclusion in the proceedings.
